3/30/2023 0 Comments Dockmate snubber dock line![]() Myself I use 3 strand dock lines, they have the most stretch, and I have rubber snubbers in 3 of the lines. I suspect the previous owner made the same mistake as my friend. The leak was from a midship cleat, it's mount holes were wallowed out about an eight of an inch and the cleat was loose. The first day I owned my 420DA it rained and I saw water trickling down the cabin wall inside. I've heard and seen those lines take such a shock that it sounds like somebody was hitting his hull hard with a maul. My friend's spring lines are short, they also do most the work the way he ties things up. ![]() My marina is open to whatever blows down the canal, whitecaps aren't unusual. If you're backed in and someone wakes you bad your bow lines and forward springs should come taut about the same time. Ideally you don't want any one line to take the full brunt all the time. ![]() Watch how your boat moves when it's all tied up. If you have to then that line is a good place to add a snubber. Tie it up short and tight and the line won't have as much stretch in it, less ability to cushion. The length of dock lines makes a difference. More stretch means they can cushion/soften the impact/tugging on cleats, like what snubbers do.
